Help! I volunteered to coach now what?

Our volunteer coaches have a variety of back grounds.  Some are ex-high school players or college athletes. Some coach to help a reluctant child enjoy the experience of being a part of a team.  Most commonly, its parents who step up because they've heard; "If you don't volunteer, we don't have enough coaches."  What ever your reason for coaching, Bennington Soccer Club is dedicated to make sure you have all the tools necessary to be successful.

Mandatory - Register with KidSafe

All coaches must register with KidSafe from the Nebraska State Soccer Association (NSSA) - This registration process takes about 5 minutes, and permits NSSA to run a background check to protect the kids.

NEW 8/31/2013 KidSafe registration must be done annually.  Previously it was every 2 years.

Mandatory - Concussion Management Training

All coaches and assistant coaches are required by the State of Nebraska as of July 1st, 2012 to undergo concussion management training.  Please forward your certification to once you have completed the training.  This is an annual requirement. The soccer year starts with the Fall season. If you complete the training in the Spring, you will need to complete it in the Fall for the next soccer year.

Mandatory - SafeSport Training

This training is new for U.S. Soccer beginning Fall 2018. (Please use the FireFox browser for this training.)

Click on the Sign-In button (top right corner, and then click the Register button. When setting up your profile, choose U.S. Soccer Please enter the following code: YC3E-6P5G-YYIL-CS2M.) There are three 30 minute modules/videos to complete. The entire training does not need to be completed in the same sitting. You are able to save and return to the training after completing each 30 minute module. Once you complete all three, please save the "SafeSport Trained" certificate and email it to

Starting Fall 2019, coaches who had already taken the initial 90 minute (3 module) training, will only be required to take a 20 minute refresher training.


Coaching Discount

BENSC offers a 50% registration fee discount to coaches who meet the following requirements:

  • Coach a team for the full year (Fall & Spring)
  • Developmental Coaches (4U-8U) hold a minimum of a F License or Grass Roots 4v4 License 
  • Competitive Coaches (9U and older) hold a minimum of an E License or Grass Roots equivalent to their age group (7v7, 9v9, or 11v11)
  • Starting August 2019, Nebraska State Soccer will offer free online Grass Roots courses (4v4, 7v7, 9v9, & 11v11). Please email for a unique promo code for the course you wish to take. Once completed, please email the certificate/license to

The 50% registration discount will be based on the registration fees paid for the current year (not upcoming year). A discount code will be emailed  to coaches who qualify for the discount in May. Coaches will enter the discount code during the registration process when registering their children for the following year. The discount code will be valid for 1 year after issuance.
