Bennington Soccer Club Game Guidelines

Bennington Soccer Club is a recreational youth league that believes in teaching the player to enjoy and learn the beginner skills and physical benefits of Soccer. At this young age, players can learn the most basic skills. Below are some helpful guidelines for teaching your players how to play soccer.

All Leagues:
  1. All players should respect each other on and off the field. It is the parent and coach’s responsibility to talk to any player that may forget this important rule.
  2. Teach players to kick the ball using the SIDE of their foot, not their toes.
  3. Players can ONLY use their hands if they are a goalie, or are throwing the ball back into play after it has gone out-of-bounds. If hands are used during the game, then blow the whistle, stop the ball where it was hand-touched, and put the ball back into play from that spot.
  4. Goalies (U8/U9 only) are encouraged to use the entire white goalie box, and to not hide inside the net. Practice teaching the goalies how to watch the ball, even when it’s far away from the goal. Once the goalie has the ball, all players must stop playing. The goalie then kicks the ball back into play.
  5. If the ball goes out-of-bounds on the sidelines: The team that kicked the ball out backs up so that the other team’s player can do a throw-in on the sidelines. Throw-ins should look like this: Player’s feet are behind the line. Both hands are on ball and positioned over head. Player throws ball in towards their players (who should be in the direction of their goal). IF a player performs a throw-in wrong, then blow the whistle and teach the correct form.
  6. IF the ball goes out along the goal-ends and the opposing team kicked it out, THEN the defending goalie kicks the ball back into play.
  7. IF the ball goes out along the goal-ends, and the defending team kicked it out, THEN the offending player does a corner-kick to put the ball back into play. Corner-kicks are performed by placing the ball into the small triangle in the corner of the field and kicking it to a teammate.
  8. For #4, 5, and 6, the player that throws/kicks the ball back in can not handle the ball until another player has made contact with the ball.
  9. All players should have equal time on the field, so substitute players appropriately. The best time to sub is when the ball goes out or a goal is scored. It is good to have team-parent help with this.
  10. When a goal is scored, all players from both teams return to the center of the field and the opposite team kicks off.
  11. Players may not use their hands or arms to gain an advantage over another player, either by pushing or holding.
  12. Players shall not slide tackle in front of a player dribbling the ball, in order to steal the ball.

Number One Rule - WE MUST HAVE FUN!!!
